Chapter 16. I can't believe I had this ability
***
Then.
When the god Lamu caught her and ran away.
Even as she was being kidnapped by a giant wolf, she was able to recognize that Lamu wasn't trying to kill her. It was holding her torso with its teeth as if to protect her from being hurt by running. There must be some other reason for this. Still, she was scared. She was terrified.
She ended up in a very large cave in the middle of nowhere.
And there were other white wolves in it, two of them.
A large mother wolf was lying down with her cub in her arms. At first glance, she could tell something was wrong with the cub. The cub was almost the size of a large bear, but it was lying there, unable to open its eyes, almost dead.
So this must be Lamu's lair, and the three of them were living here, but why had it brought her to this place?
[Human, save my cub].
The mysterious voice in her head startled her, and she turned to look at the Lamu god standing behind her. It was talking to her....... right now. With a voice that could only be heard in her head, not her ears.
"I... How?"
"How am I supposed to save that wolf?" She couldn't make out the words.
This was what she had been brought here for, and if she couldn’t save it, she would be killed...
Her body began to visibly tremble with renewed fear. She felt as if those fierce teeth would tear her limb from limb. Her heart was already racing, but it was about to get worse.
[Poison. My cub is dying. Save him].
Again, the Lamu ordered her menacingly.
“But... how?"
She couldn't help but ask, her voice trembling. She was helpless.
[Your blood. The antidote. Save it.]
Blood?
Her blood?
She was still not sure what this meant.
There was no explanation, because the god Lamu could speak human language, but it was not very good at it. So what it was saying was that her blood was the antidote.
Perhaps that meant that her blood was the cure. But she had never heard that before. So she was full of questions about what kind of nonsense this was.
[That's right. So do it. Go ahead.]
Lamu's eyes grew fierce. To her horror, Trisha forced herself to approach the wolf cub. This was bad. It was only a matter of time before it died.
The mother wolf with the pup stood still, as if she knew she had come to heal it. For some reason, her eyes looked very sad, but Trisha saw a glimmer of hope in her eyes, a glimmer of hope in the midst of all the despair.
She was terrified. Lamu has got it wrong. How could she do this? As the glimmer of hope grew in the mother wolf's eyes, the despair and terror in her own grew.
As gingerly as she could, Trisha approached and held out her hand to the large wolf pup. Her hands were still shaking and she was terrified to death, but the wolf cub's white fur was softer than she had expected. But.
The wolf cub's body was cold to the touch. It got colder as she moved down toward its belly. If this coldness spreads to its entire body, this wolf cub would die.
Hmph. This symptom.
She had a vision. Trisha suddenly remembered something.
It was similar to the symptoms of her father, who had been bedridden for years. After he'd fallen, his whole body would go cold and stiff, and he'd barely open his eyes and cling to life. One day he would feel a little better, a little warmer, and the next day he would be cold again. Her stepmother wouldn't let her visit often, so she could only visit him two or three times a month.
But this wolf cub was lying there with similar symptoms. No, it was almost dying. Just like her father.
Apparently, the Lamu god said it was poison, which meant that these symptoms were caused by poison. So... was her father poisoned?
No, no. She couldn’t think of anything else right now. It was a matter of life or death right at this moment.
She placed her warm hands in the center of the wolf pup's belly and pressed down. That was the coldest place. Please let my warmth reach it.
She pushed with all her might.
Hot.
It was a strange thing. It would have been useless against the great tree in the courtyard, but not now. Her hands were icy cold.
She felt a strange sensation of cold seeping into her hands, and then warmth again, like a wolf cub's belly. Her palm tingled as the cold and hot energy circulated through it. Then, a moment later, something amazing happened.
Wooo….
The wolf cub, who had been lying motionless, took a deep breath and stirred.
Woooooooo....
That alone made the mother wolf let out a low cry of joy. Before she knew it, the Lamu god had moved closer and was breathing heavily with excitement.
So was Trisha. Perhaps she was special like Aaron....
[Human. Get out of here].
It had sounded threatening at first, but now the voice in her head sounded more like a plea.
It was. The Lamu said her blood was the antidote.
If she succeeded she would get out alive.
Trisha hurriedly pulled the end of the necklace she always wore. The same dagger that had torn her dress in half before, she brought it to her palm. Then, without hesitation, she slashed it.
In an instant, the blood pooled in her palm, and she opened the wolf's mouth and let it slide down its throat. She let the blood drip from her palm into the cub's mouth for a while.
Ah....
Suddenly, it tingled.
It was too much. Her palm was covered in a long, blood-stained gash. A sharp pain shot from the wound.
Ah.
She jumped, startled. The mother wolf was gently licking her wound with the tip of her large tongue. But it didn't stop there. Now her eyes widened.
With each lick, the deep wound was becoming lighter and lighter. This... What....
Eventually, the wound faded away, and she was unharmed. No way.
Trisha looked into her palm, over and over again, marveling. This was why they called them God.
It was then.
The wolf cub made a grunting noise. Immediately, the mother wolf and the Lamu god began to lick the cub with their tongues.
Then, slowly, the cub's eyelids moved. The cub's eyelids opened and closed again, still weakly, but showing tremendous improvement.
Woooooo…..
Lamu and the mother wolf took turns letting out a cry. It was a sound of joy.
Trisha finally saw hope. She could live.
For more than three days straight, she warmed the cub's body with the warmth of her hands and let it drink her blood. Of course, thanks to the mother wolf, the wound on her palm healed quickly. She repeated this over and over again.
Each time she healed, the pup got better and better. It opened its eyes, lifted its head, looked at its parents, and even let out a cry. In response, the Lamu god and the mother wolf joined in, and the great cave vibrated with echoes of joy.
She had this power.
Her blood was indeed the antidote. First, Trisha thanked her dead mother. It was thanks to her blood.
At night, she would sleep with the wolf cub in her arms, the two of them wrapped in a circle of the Lamu and mother wolf. It was like sleeping under a blanket of fluffy, warm fur.
Just when the wolf pup seemed to have gotten through the crisis, Lamu picked her up again and carried her safely to the altar. And he said.
[Stand here and don't move].
Trisha did as she was told, and stood motionless in the recesses of the cliff. She began to see soldiers in the distance trying to move up, followed by Kalos.
She didn't know how long she was going to be standing there, so she just kept standing there.
Then the avalanche trapped her like this. So at first, she was suspicious of the Lamu.
But then Trisha was jolted out of her reverie by the sound of Kalos flailing around next to her. She realized that it had gotten darker around her and a long time had passed. It was much colder than it had been.
The chill came in harder from the rocky back than from the snow-covered front, and even the mighty Kalos was beginning to shiver in the rapidly freezing air. It was like being buried in ice. At this rate, he might not make it through the night.
Trisha hesitated. She didn't want to do it if she could help it.
If she could just close her eyes and turn a blind eye, she would.
Ugh... An uncontrollable sigh escaped her, and she forced her lips to move and whispered to Kalos.
"Hold me."
